Top 100 baby names number 75

I thought it would be fun to look at the top 100 boys and girls names from last year.  I am doing a series on these with their meanings. Enjoy!

Today we have the number 75s -  Anna and Roman.

Anna (Hebrew)

I think this blossom is very beautiful.

I think this blossom is very beautiful.

I've already covered Anna since the nickname Annie was number 93. Anna means 'favour', 'grace' or 'beautiful'. Anna is also the name of a figure in the writings of early Christians (New Testament apocrypha). In these and in the Quran she appears as the mother of the Mary and grandmother of Jesus. The apocrypha are interesting if you want to know more about the history of Christianity and how we arrived at the current canonical biblical texts.

 Roman - citizen of Rome

Roman - citizen of Rome

Roman (Latin)

This is a simple one, it means what you'd expect, 'citizen of Rome' or 'citizen of the Roman Empire'. The name originates from the Latin 'Romanus'.
