Top 100 baby names number 72

I thought it would be fun to look at the top 100 boys and girls names from last year.  I am doing a series on these with their meanings. Enjoy!

Today we have the number 72s -  Abigail and Blake.

Abigail (Hebrew)

 A dad and his joy.

A dad and his joy.

Abigail is from the Hebrew meaning 'my father's joy' or possibly 'my father is joy'. Either way, it's a great name for Daddy's little darling.

Blake (English)

Whatever colour hair is under that hat, this baby could easily be a Blake.

Whatever colour hair is under that hat, this baby could easily be a Blake.

Sources are a but confused by Blake. It could come from the Old English 'blæc', meaning someone with dark hair and/or dark skin, or it could be from another Old English word, 'blac', meaning someone blonde and/or  light-skinned. In other words Blake has your bases covered colouring wise unless you're like me, somewhere in the middle.
