I thought it would be fun to look at the top 100 boys and girls names from last year.  I am doing a series on these with their meanings. Enjoy!

Today we have the number 70s -  Mila and Theodore.

Mila (Slavic)

This is obviously a very dear child.

This is obviously a very dear child.

There are lots of Slavic names which either begin or end with Mila. Mila is used as a diminutive of these. It comes from the element Мил (mil) which means 'dear' or 'gracious'.

Theodore (Greek)

I may not be religious, but I can relate to the sentiment of believing your child to be a gift.

Theodore comes from the Greek name meaning 'God-given' which is formed of the  words θεός, (theós) meaning 'God' and δώρον (dōron) meaning 'gift'.
