Top 100 baby names number 69
I thought it would be fun to look at the top 100 boys and girls names from last year. I am doing a series on these with their meanings. Enjoy!
Today we have - Darcy and Hunter.
When Darcey came up as number 84 I made an error. I mentioned that one meaning of Darcy/Darcey could be 'dark haired one' but I attributed that to a French root. Oops! Nope. Apparently it's from the Irish name 'O'Dorchaide' which means 'descendant of the dark haired one'. My bad.
I really don’t need to define Hunter. Instead, I thought I’d note that in the United States it’s used as a unisex name but in the UK we tend to think of it purely as a masculine name, and I wonder what that says about the two cultures.
