Like quite a lot of shorter names, Lyla has a few different derivations. For example, it is the female version of Lyle (from the French ‘de l’isle’), and translates to "From the Island", "Island Girl" or "Island Beauty". It’s also sometimes a nickname for Delilah, Leila, and Lars. Some people spell Lyla as Lila and Lilah. I wonder whether its popularity has something to do with the similarity to Lyra from Philip Pullman’s Dark Materials trilogy.
Aiden is an anglicisation of the Irish male given name Aodhán and the Scottish Gaelic given name Aodhàn. These are nicknames or diminutives for Aodh, which means fiery or ‘bringer of fire’. In turn anyone called Aodh is named after the Celtic sun god, also known as Aed.
