Annie (English)

Annie is another diminutive that’s become a name in its own right. It’s a name that has travelled. It comes from Anne, which is French for Anna, which comes from the Latin for Hannah, another Hebrew name.

The root meaning of Annie is grace.

Grayson (English)

This is one of the surname-as-first-name crowd a trend that’s been gathering pace for years. Depending on who you ask, Grayson either means ‘son of the grey-haired one’ or ‘son of the steward’ (‘greyve’ being an old word for steward). Both are pretty plausible.

This is a great choice if you want your child to take an interest in the arts.
